Immigration Monument at Zeche Zollverein

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the recruitment agreement between Germany and Turkey. To mark this anniversary, an immigration memorial is to be erected on the grounds of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen over the next few years to honor the achievements of the people who came to Germany to work as migrant workers at that time. Starting Monday, June 21, 2021, six contemporary artists will present their designs on the 24-meter level of the Ruhr Museum, selected by a jury of experts. We at DOMiD are therefore all the more pleased that our managing director Dr. Robert Fuchs will be a member of the jury that will award the best design.

Designs for the immigration monument

The exhibition of the designs for the monument accompany the special exhibition "We are from here. Turkish-German Life 1990. Photographs by Ergun Çağatay". From June 21 to October 31, 2021, visitors* can view the 120 snapshots that provide insight into the everyday lives of migrants from Turkey and their families.
