About DOMiD
The stories of immigrants and their descendants need a place in Germany where they can be told in a dignified manner. DOMiD has taken on this task since 1990 and collects social, cultural and everyday historical testimonies that document the rich history of migration in Germany. More than 150,000 contemporary testimonies are archived in a collection that is unique in Germany. These are presented to the public as part of guided tours, events and digital educational offerings. What has been missing so far are representative exhibition rooms. This gap is closed by the Museum Selma, with which the association goal of DOMiD, the creation of a nationwide migration museum, is realized. It is expected to open in 2029.
For the first time, the cultural heritage of immigrants and their descendants, as well as the influence of migration on our migrant society, is the focus of a nationwide museum. DOMiD will build this museum in Cologne-Kalk in the coming years with support from the federal government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the city of Cologne. A former industrial hall with an area of around 10,000 square meters offers space for an innovative museum concept. It shows how migration has been inscribed in German history and shapes our social coexistence. As a cultural and educational center, the house also offers space for exchange and a change of perspective. Questions of identity, coexistence and participation can be negotiated democratically and the opportunities and potential of the migration society can be highlighted. In Cologne, in the heart of Europe, arises: Museum Selma.
You can expect a collegial and interdisciplinary working environment in a team that dedicates itself with heart and mind to tasks that benefit society as a whole. We offer creative freedom, a dynamic project and the possibility of mobile working. The work location is in the middle of urban Cologne-Ehrenfeld and is easily accessible by public transport.
Diversity is close to DOMiD's heart – every story counts
DOMiD's vision is a "society of the many" that recognizes migration as a shaping force. #unserMuseum is therefore a commitment to the migration society. We want to be a team that represents our diverse society. At DOMiD, we understand that our differences are not an obstacle. Rather, we are excited about the different worldviews and perspectives of all employees that will make #unserMuseum (our museum) a success. Innovation without diversity is not possible.
Therefore, we welcome applications from people who belong to social groups that are often socially marginalized.
