TREFFPUNKT - An exhibition about encounters
The time has come - the first exhibition within DOMiDLabs opens!
In the first laboratory of DOMiDLabs everything revolves around the topic 'encounter'. Together with people from the Cologne district Kalk, the questions were explored, among others: What do we think of when we hear the term 'encounter'? What do encounters mean in Kalk? How do we encounter each other in the migration society?
The results of the collaborative work can be seen in the exhibition TREFFPUNKT from October 28 to November 17, 2022. Visitors are invited to meet each other, to encounter narratives, places and objects from Kalk - and elsewhere - as well as to contribute their own. In this way, a dynamic place is created in which exhibition experiences that are somewhat different can be experienced together.

Program
#1 29.10. | Recipe (exchange) workshop
This workshop is about culinary encounters. Which favorite dish do you like to share with others? What ingredients does it require and where can you buy them? Which dish has a special meaning for you - for example, because you associate it with a person and/or a particular moment? Bring your recipes - and if you like, your special ingredients - and share them with other participants. The results of the workshop will become part of the exhibition and can be experienced by visitors.

#2 03.11. | Plant (exchange) workshop
In this workshop we would like to get together and (exchange ideas about) plants: Which plant has a special meaning for you? With which plant do you associate a certain place and/or people? And which plants do you simply like to have around you? Feel free to bring a branch, or even better, cuttings of a plant for the other participants and share with us your knowledge about it. The plants (stories) collected in the workshop will populate and grow the exhibition.

The "Haus der Einwanderungsgesellschaft" as a Site of Encounter
Together with people from Cologne-Kalk, we dealt with the topic of "Encounter(s) in the Migration Society" in the first laboratory "Treffpunkt Museum" and with the question of what an exhibition needs in order to invite visitors to encounters.
The work in the lab took place in different workshops. These were prepared and conducted by Danielle Kuijten (Heritage Concepting, Amsterdam) together with DOMiD staff members Sandra Vacca and Azziza B. Malanda. In addition, the architects' collective raumlaborberlin accompanied the workshops. In coordination with the team, raumlaborberlin was responsible for the design and construction of the exhibition.
In the project DOMiDLabs: Labs for Participatory Museum Design, different people come together in four labs. Their common goal is to develop design concepts based on various themes that will help the Documentation Center and Museum on Migration in Germany e.V.(DOMiD) to build a multifaceted migration museum in Cologne-Kalk. The DOMiDLabs project is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation from 2021 to 2024.
