The recruitment agreement for migrant workers between Turkey and Germany was signed on October 30, 1961. The events in the following years have significantly shaped both countries and their people; have paved the way for lasting influences in economic, political, social and cultural life.
In light of this historical event and developments, Dünya Verlag in cooperation with DOMiD e.V. (Documentation Center and Museum on Migration in
Deutschland e. V.), the Landesintegrationsrat-NRW, with the support of the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne and under the patronage of Serap Güler, State Secretary for Integration in the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The competition will be held in the categories "Stories" and "Poems". The focus should be on the experiences of migration from the perspective of migrants and people in the country of immigration. With the power of literature, these perspectives should be documented and at the same time contribute to the transmission to future generations.
The total prize of the competition in the amount of 5,000€ is distributed as follows:
The winners in the categories "Stories" and "Poems" will receive 1,000€ each, the runners-up 600€ each and the third-place winners 400€ each.
Applications for the competition are open from March 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021. The results will be announced on October 30, 2021, the anniversary of the recruitment agreement, at the award ceremony to be held in Cologne.
The works awarded in the competition will also be published in book form. With reference to agreements with the Foreign Office, the aim is to hold readings and events in Turkey with partners of the Ministry.
