On 14 and 15 February 2025, DOMiD is organizing a training course for education and social work professionals in cooperation with the Alter Schlachthof memorial site in Düsseldorf. This training course is aimed at educators, social workers and teachers who want to explore the history and current aspects of migration and flight.
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Alter Schlachthof memorial site, a Nazi memorial on the campus of Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, and the Documentation Center and Museum on Migration in Germany (DOMiD) in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. The learning locations, their themes, archive materials and educational practices will be related to each other in order to develop and discuss perspectives and approaches for (one's own) remembrance and educational practice. Both current and historical stories of flight will be examined.
Impulses for your own educational work
With the aim of offering teachers and educators approaches for their own educational and remembrance practice, this training course has already taken place once on November 29 and 30, 2024. In the permanent exhibition of the Old Slaughterhouse, which commemorates crimes committed during the Nazi era, and in the DOMiD premises, where our colleague Andrea Nepomuck, responsible for education and mediation at DOMiD, gave the group an insight into the collection of migration stories, which is unique in Germany, the participants worked on topics such as biographies, interviews with contemporary witnesses and the handling of archive materials in order to gain inspiration for their own educational work.
We would like to thank all participants and the organizers for the successful cooperation and look forward to another exciting training weekend on 14 and 15 February 2025.
